“Narwhal” is the first robot developed by our organization to be presented at an international competition in person.
Building the robot required close cooperation between the mechanical, electronics, embedded software, control software, and AI teams. Thanks to the collaboration and dedication of everyone involved, we were able to complete the project within a short period of time.
The robot was presented at the international MATE ROV Competition 2024 in Kingsport, TN, USA. A delegation of six members of our organization set off on June 17, 2024, to take part in the competition from June 18-22. Competing in the Pioneer class, we placed 11th out of 78 teams.

The competition tasks assigned to the robot include:
▪ Operating and servicing marine observation buoys
▪ Laying and connecting underwater cables
▪ Collecting, analyzing, and transporting coral reef samples
▪ Detecting sturgeon habitats and collecting samples from the seabed

Funding from the 2024 AGH Rector’s Grant made it possible to purchase the necessary components and build the robot. Additionally, funding from the AGH budget covered travel and accommodation for representatives of our organization and university.
Equally important was the experience gained by our members while building previous robots. This knowledge helped us optimize the design and construction process and allowed us to quickly solve any problems that arose.
